Skin Cancer Awareness

skin-cancer-awareness

Summertime is here!

It is always a pleasure to have a beautiful, sunny day to relax outside, play sports or take a walk.

However, it is very important to remember to protect our skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun by using adequate sunscreen, hats and protective garments, and limiting our exposure, especially during certain times of the day.

Skin cancer diagnoses are not only due to sun exposure – they can result from chemical exposures and even smoking.  Risk factors can include those with fair skin or less pigment in their skin but remember, anyone can get skin cancer – so protect yourself.

There are various types of skin cancers, some are easily treated with removal but others require a more sophisticated treatment plan.

In many instances, radiation therapy is an excellent and sometimes preferred treatment which removes the cancer cells as well as spares normal tissue and leaves no scars.

And remember, always reach out to a trusted and experienced physician to help you determine the best and safest form of treatment for any cancer.

Enjoy your summer!
